Jack Moors Monkey Business

Jack Moore’s Monkeys.

A quick preliminary cipher through the local press tells LHL that Jack Moore’s Monkeys was a popular tea garden at the bottom of Barden Lane in Burnley. The monkey was called Judy and a popular attraction, especially around Easter when local folk were on their way to Pendle Hill. There were some elaborate swings, at or in around the tea garden, made in the appearance of ships and LHL have been unable to locate an exact time period but a writer to the Lancashire Telegraph in April 1999 has the garden named in existence from sometime as early as 1900 to the inter war years. Hope this helps our reader! Best. PJF.
